When screaming isn't a lack of self-control but an intentional and essential healing tool.

“A scream is a loud vocalization in which air is passed through the vocal cords with greater force than is used in regular or close-distance vocalization,” according to Wikipedia.
It’s so much more than that, though, as we all know.
Screaming is primal, necessary, healing, and even enjoyable. It’s the only form of communication we have to use as babies to let people know we are in need of something or that something is wrong. At that stage of life, it is tolerable, understandable, and expected. As we grow up, though, screaming is unlearned and conditioned out of us.
We are taught that to scream is embarrassing for those around us, not “good” girl or boy behavior, not ladylike, and will make us look crazy. The thing that was our primal survival instinct is now shamed - only saved for when we are scared or in a physical pain response.
So what happens when we are taught it’s not okay to express ourselves in the ways our bodies prefer, were made for, and need?
WE REPRESS.
WE GET ILL.
WE LASH OUT.
WE PEOPLE PLEASE.
WE TURN IT TOWARDS OURSELVES.
When the need to scream comes from trauma such as sexual abuse, mother wounds, father wounds, narcissistic abuse damage, PTSD, emotional abuse, mental abuse, etc., then we now take that into the rest of our lives and interactions. Our businesses, relationships, and how we treat our bodies are all infected and affected.
Yes, I know that we all still scream. We get to a point where we can’t take it one more second as something as simple as dropping something on the floor can produce the sound we have been craving to birth out of us in all its glory.
AND WOW, DOES IT FEEL AMAZING WHEN WE DO IT!
We have possibly included tears of anger, rage, and overwhelm, and when all that is out, finally, that sweet, sweet release has left you spent in a way that even the best orgasm can’t achieve.
We will often find ourselves saying, “Wow! Why don’t I do this more often?! I feel great!
Well, I think that time is coming. Actually, no. It’s here.
There are now businesses called RAGE ROOMS all over the United States where you or a group of your friends can pay to throw, break, smash, and scream it out. As of 2020, there are sixty Rage Rooms in the United States. Their prices range from $25-$245 to use, depending on the location and how much you are destroying.
There is a reason why there are so many and why they are so popular. There hasn’t been an acceptable place to scream and rage, and now there is.
What if we took it a step further? What if there was a way to not just release the pain but actually heal our trauma by using our screams intentionally?
I had my own SACRED RAGE scream in my kitchen in November 2020. I had come to a place in my life where I was trying to put together all the reasons why I was still stuck in certain areas. I realized after some thought that I was still very mad at a lot of people and things that had happened to me. I started to think that maybe I just needed to be angry for no reason other than to BE angry.
I felt this twinge of judgment even though I was alone and no one would come home or hear me. That made me pissed off too. I couldn’t even allow myself to be angry BY MYSELF! I then knew for sure that this is what was needed.
So I started walking around my house, thinking of all the things that made me mad. There was a lot. I started to feel this boiling, tornado-type feeling starting to form inside me. It felt like it was me, but not me. I was a little scared but more curious and excited as it also felt powerful and like something big was about to happen.
Then something interesting happened.
I am psychic, and even though I do not hear or see Spirit, I do sometimes get messages in my head that are in my own voice. But I know for certain it is not mine. I sometimes know who it is, and I sometimes do not. My ex-boyfriend from high school had passed away two weeks before, and as I found myself in the kitchen in front of my white stove, I paused. I heard him say, “LET IT ALL OUT.”
Wow! Did I ever.
I screamed a scream that had never in my life ever come out of me. It came from beyond me, my ancestors even. It rolled up and out of me like something physically releasing from me, and when it was done, I felt amazing!
I felt free, happy, joyful, and in awe, knowing that something big had, in fact, just happened.
I immediately knew that I had to share this and tell everyone they needed to do this for themselves. It became my purpose to share with others how to do this, that rage is sacred when we use it to connect and heal our trauma in a safe, supportive place. When this is done, women who came in extremely wounded, mad and sad, afraid to exist, take a chance, trust themselves, trust the world, take risks, believe in themselves, use their voice, and who are apologizing for taking up even the smallest of spaces, are now leaving as the most strong, empowered, take no BS, creative, unbreakable, unstoppable, happy, loving, expressive, magnetized Goddesses who are excited to live again.
It’s all because they were finally allowed to SCREAM.
Happy screaming, everyone!
